Melody Fair

North Tonawanda, New York

Melody Fair venue sat 3,000 people and included a rotating stage.  The venue was officially called Melody Fair until 1998 when it became the Majestic Theatre until 2002, when it became the New Melody Theatre until 2006.  The building was demolished in 2010. If you go there now, you will find a WalMart on the property next to the old Wurlitzer plant in Wulitzer Park off Niagara Boulevard. Melody Park drew an impressive array of stars so it truly saddened the hearts of many to watch it fall into disuse in the 1990s.

Melody Fair was a popular summer entertainment venue located in North Tonawanda, New York.  It began as a tent in 1956 by Lewis Fisher and evolved into a permanent building in 1974.  The venue hosted a wide range of performers for over 50 years including musicals concerts and comedians drawing people from all over the region.

Melody Fair's impact on the community is still remembered, today.  Melody Fair's memory is preserved in the North Tonawanda History Museum as part of its theatre history exhibit.

Sidenote:  I saw John Davidson at Melody Fair and again at Chautauqua Institution.  The revolving stage was a fun feature for hundreds of performers.  Air Supply performed at Melody Fair August 26, 1997.  Chicago July 29, 1997.  The Everly Brothers July 10, 1987. Harry Chapin August 15, 1979.  The Byrds August 22, 1971. Huey Lewis and The News August 3, 2003, July 16, 1997 and August 8, 1995.
