The Crystal Beach Candy Company is located in Fort Erie, Ontario just minutes from the site of the famous Crystal Beach Amusement Park. The park was once famous for many things including the "Comet" roller coaster, the beautiful dance ballroom, delicious sugar waffles and Hall's Original Suckers. The candy company has come to the rescue of those needing a sugar fix, by bringing back the suckers and sugar waffles using the original recipes used at the park for 101 years!
No visit to Crystal Beach Amusement Park was complete without a stop at Hall's Original Suckeer booth to purchase a large rectangular sucker for the ride home from a fun day at the park. Hall's Original Suckers were started in 1902 by George C. Hall, Sr. who handed it down to his son, Edward who in turn passed the business onto his son, Bob who continued making the suckers until the park closed in 1989.
After many years the Crystal Beach Candy Company and owner, Bob Steckley convinced Bob Hall to sell him the original recipes and the sucker making equipment that had been in use for many years. In June of 2001, the equipment was, again, turning out the famous suckers in all 5 flavors (cinnamon, peanut, butterscotch, lemon and coconut). The Crystal Beach Company now has 4 additional new flavors .. Loganberry, Cherry, Orange and Lime.
Though the park has closed its doors, local love for some of its signature concessions has endured, especially, the sugar waffle. The waffle was another park creation of George C. Hall. By selling his "sugar waffles" at Crystal Beach, Hall established an association between the famous waffle treat and the famous amusement park for generations and beyond.
