Santa Catalina Island
The Four Preps/1958
Twenty-six miles across the sea
Santa Catalina is a-waitin' for me,
Santa Catalina, the island of romance.
Santa Catalina Island often shortened to Catalina Island or just Catalina is a rocky island off the coast of Southern California in the Gulf of Santa Catalina. The island is 26 miles long and 8 miles wide. The island is located 26 miles south-southwest of Long Beach, California. The highest point on the island is Mount Orizaba at 2,097 ft. On January 10, 1949, 8 inches of snow fell on the mountain. It is named after Pico de Orizaba, the tallest peak in Mexico.
The island encompasses about 76 square miles (47,884 acres) and 54 miles of coastline. It's about eight miles wide at it widest point and half a mile at its narrowest.
